Overview

Days in State ("the App") is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your location data is sensitive and personal, and we've architected the App so that we never have access to it. The App does use anonymous analytics and ad measurement services, but these never receive your location data, presence records, or personal information.

Data We Collect

We do not collect your location or presence data. Your state/country records are processed and stored entirely on your device. This data is:

• Stored locally on your iPhone
• Optionally backed up to your private iCloud account (if you enable iCloud backup)
• Never transmitted to our servers

The App does collect anonymous usage analytics (screen views, feature usage, subscription events) to help us improve the product. See the Analytics section below for details.

Location Data

The App uses your device's GPS to determine which state or country you are in. This location data:

• Is processed entirely on your device
• Is stored only on your device and/or your iCloud account
• Is never sent to us or any third party
• Can be deleted at any time from within the App

We use Apple's reverse geocoding service (which runs on your device) to convert GPS coordinates into state/country names. This is a standard iOS feature and does not transmit your precise location to us.

iCloud Backup

If you enable iCloud backup, your presence data is stored in your private iCloud database. This means:

• The data is encrypted and stored in YOUR iCloud account
• Only you can access it
• We have no ability to read, access, or decrypt this data
• Apple's iCloud security protections apply
• You can restore your data if you get a new iPhone or reinstall the app

Analytics

The App uses the following analytics services to help us improve the product:

• Firebase Analytics (Google) — We collect anonymous app usage data (screen views, feature usage, subscription events) to understand how the App is used and improve it. No location data is included. This data is aggregated and cannot identify you.
• Facebook SDK (Meta) — We use the Facebook SDK to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. This SDK may receive a signal indicating whether you allowed ad tracking (via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt). No location data is shared with Facebook.

All analytics data is about app usage, never about your location records.

Advertising & Tracking

• We use Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework to ask your permission before measuring ad effectiveness
• If you decline, no ad tracking occurs — the App works identically either way
• We never share your location data, presence records, or personal information with advertisers
• Ad measurement data is limited to: whether you installed the App, whether you subscribed, and general usage patterns
• You can change your tracking permission at any time in iOS Settings

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following services:

• Core Location (Apple) — For GPS-based state detection (on-device)
• CloudKit (Apple) — For optional iCloud backup (your private database)
• StoreKit (Apple) — For in-app purchases (Apple handles payment)
• Firebase Analytics (Google) — Anonymous usage analytics
• Facebook SDK (Meta) — Ad campaign measurement
• App Tracking Transparency (Apple) — We ask for your permission before enabling ad measurement. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings.

In-App Purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store any payment information. Apple may share limited transaction data with us (such as whether a purchase was successful), but no personal financial information.

Data Retention

Since we don't collect your data, there's nothing to retain. Your data remains on your device and in your iCloud account until you choose to delete it.

You can delete all your data at any time:

• Within the App via Settings → Delete All Data
• By deleting the App from your device
• By disabling iCloud backup and deleting iCloud data

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
